High School Student Council Meeting December 4th 2009

Homework:

Mr. Santos had a meeting with parents about concern over too much homework as well as too many large project or tests on the same day.

Questions: Is this a very big problem? How can we deal with it?

Mr. Santos wants us to organize a survey to find out how much this issue (mentioned above) has happened to students.

After the survey has been taken, Mr. Santos would like to present the data to the teachers to raise awareness of the problem so that we can solve it.

Making the survey:

-electronically

-just a couple of questions

Ananya and Chantalle will work on survey

What went well-
-Haunted House

What didn´t go well-

-Kids cooperation

-We should have charged more - 3 tickets

- Shifts- not enough of people

- People would try to sneak in the Haunted House

Ideas for Next Year-

- More people- we can encourage people to volunteer by offering community service hours.

- We have to advertize our events better.

(School is saying that the High School Student Council should give up either the Haunted House or the Disco and let the Middle School Student Council organize the other one.

High School Student Council Meeting Friday 23rd

Halloween

Dance:

-Can be in Mr. Maadini´s room, but we have to watch the crowds and keep the people in control. Mr. Santos also wants us to watch the people who come up the stairs because last year people were throwing things at the crowd.

-Ananya will do the playlist. (Nadim will talk to Ananya about songs)

-Ms. Linskog will talk with Thomas to get the speakers.

-Ms. Linskog will also talk to someone about getting hand stamps.

Haunted House:

Will be in the Cafeteria. We will have to block one of the entrances and use the other one so that we are able to control who is entering and/or leaving.

Ideas for the Haunted House:

Death Restaurant

Kitchen

Circus

FINAL THEME: Story that has to do with a restaurant...

Budget:

We can spend 100 euros

PTA and Props:

PTA will provide us with Helium and Balloons. No streamers will be provided by the PTA. Ms. Linskog will find a fog light or black light.

Where will we buy the rest of our props?

POSTERS-

Expelled Members:

They have three days to appeal and email Ms. Linskog. If they do, they will come to the next meeting and appeal to the members. We will then vote whether we are to keep them in the council or not.

High School Student Council Meeting September 29th, 2009

High School Student Council Meeting Tuesday 29th , 2009

Meeting Time and Day

We will normally meet on Fridays at 2:30 in Mr. Hershberger´s room.

Halloween

-Haunted House

Where do we have it?

Music Room- too far away from main attractions

Elementary building

    -Disco

Music Room/Cafeteria

-Music Room advantages: Good control over who is entering and/or leaving.

-Cafeteria advantages: It´s a big place that can fit every one

Tickets to pay with:

Try to get the same tickets as the PTA. Sam Ordonez will ask the PTA whether we can share the same tickets.

Other Ideas for Halloween:

Candy grams?

Money left to use: The exact amount isn´t known yet but we have a minimum of 1000 euros.

Couches

Mr. Santos has said that we cannot have couches anymore because of the cats.

Sports Equipment

-2 footballs

-Ping Pong ball, rackets

Ideas:

Have equipment for each grade? Have a separate ball for high schoolers to use.

Concerns:

Security (Who will look after them)

To get a ball, they need to deposit something valuable (cell phone, money…) at the office and if you damage the ball you don´t get it back until you pay?

If somebody loses or pops the ball, they pay for it?

Somebody has to ask whether the Student Council is responsible for paying for new balls if older ones are damaged or lost.
